SPRINGFIELD-Marian L. (Girdis) Duncan, 92, of Springfield passed away December 27, 2017 at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow. Marian, daughter of the late Nicholas J. and Anna (Kossman) Girdis, was born in Springfield on October 10, 1925. Raised in Springfield, she was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School Class of ‘43. In the 1950’s, she worked for the phone company and Paine, Webber, Jackson, and Curtis. Marian was a member of the 16 Acres Golden Agers. She was also a proud member of Church in the Acres, a member of the Building Committee, a 50-year member of the Springfield Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Technical High School Reunion Committee. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, James D. Duncan in 2004, her brothers, John and James Girdis; and her sister, Dorothy Robertson. Marian will be missed by all who knew her, including her beloved husband, Joshua M. Duncan; her daughters, Betty A. Edgett and her husband Tim of Hampden, Nancy R. Dulchinos and her husband William of Chicopee, Lavada Bascom of Springfield, and Gail H. Crowell of Kennebunk, ME; her grandchildren, Michael, Kristin, Effie, Nicholas, Heide, Joshua, and Timothy; her 8 loving great grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends. Visiting Hours for Marian will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 4PM to 7PM at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Friends are invited to meet directly at Church in the Acres, 1383 Wilbraham Road, Springfield on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 11AM. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marian’s memory may be made to Rays of Hope, PO Box 5141, Springfield, MA 01101.
