Robert A. Plankey, 88, passed away Dec. 26, 2017. He was born Sept. 3, 1929 to the late Anthony and Gladys Plankey. Bob was a reservist in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War on the USS Ariskany . While in the Navy, he was an expert marksmen and captain of the marksmen team. He was the owner of Deb’s Automotive and Speed Parts and also worked at Hamilton Standard, where he worked on all of the Apollo Mission’s for NASA. Bob was commended for his part in fixing the electrical wiring and oxygen systems that helped bring the Apollo 13’s astronauts home safely. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, vacationing on Lake Champlain and also played semi-pro baseball. Bob also enjoyed fast cars, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He played pool professionally for the APA pool league and competed in several national championships in Las Vegas. Bob leaves three sons; James, David and his wife Dawn and Steven Plankey, all of Spfld, two daughters; Patricia Ramos of Ware and Julie Foster and her husband Craig of Wilbraham, seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, his sister Marie Charbonneau of VT. He was predeceased by his brother Bill Plankey. A Funeral Home Service will be held THURS at 11:30 AM at SAMPSON’S CHAPEL OF THE ACRES, 21 TINKHAM RD. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Calling Hours will be held WEDS from 4 to 7 PM.
