James Dunnigan, Sr.
James H. Dunnigan Sr., 77, passed away Sunday Dec. 31, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. James was born Sept. 14, 1940 in Woburn, MA to the late James and Mildred (Downy) Dunnigan. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from W.N.E.C. James proudly served in the US Army from 1959 to 1962. After the Army, he became a police officer for the City of Springfield, where he worked for over 30 years. James was the first K9 officer in the city and retired in 1999 from the crime prevention unit. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. James leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Joanne (Piantedosi), his beloved sons; James Dunnigan Jr., and his wife Laurel of E. Long., and Stephen Dunnigan and his wife Anna of Wilb. He was a loving grandfather to Kelsey, Patrick, Keagen and Cullen and great grandfather to Jackson and Gannon. James also leaves his caring sister Linda Harold of New York. Funeral Services will be held MON 9:45 AM from the SAMPSON’S CHAPEL OF THE ACRES, 21 TINKHAM RD. followed by a 10:45 AM Liturgy of Christian Burial in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, 405 Boston Rd. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Calling Hours will be held SUNDAY from 12 NOON to 2 PM.
