Rose A (Ferrero) Pollard, 97, of Springfield died Sunday, April 29, 2018 at home after a long illness surrounded by her loving family. Rose was born in Ludlow, MA on August 4,1920 and was the loving daughter of Francesco and Margherita (Cartello) Ferrero. She married the love of her life, Leonard “Snub” Pollard on September 29, 1951. They raised two children William and Margaret-Ann. Rose dedicated herself fully to the task at hand. From graduating with Honors from Cathedral High School (’38) to working for the City of Springfield for over 34 years. Rose was one of the first female Department Heads for the City. As City Clerk, Rose left her mark on the City through her participation in the Chamber of Commerce, Woman’s Division and as Chairman for the first Tag Sale on Main Street. Though she will be best know for her perfect Palmer-method penmanship and signature. Rose was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church in Springfield and was a member of the Catholic Woman’s Club. Rose was most proud of her Italian heritage and her family. She would love to tell stories about her parents and her siblings. Her favorite stories were about “Mrs. Ferrero’s Famous Spaghetti Suppers”, her father making all sorts of meats with the Carando family and her first job at her brother Vincent’s Ice Cream Parlor as a Soda Jerk. Rose was pre-deceased by her parents, her brothers, Vincent, Louis, Julian, Ernest and William, her sisters, Frances and Julia, her husband, Leonard and her son, Bill. She leaves behind her daughter Maggie Perracchio and her husband, Vince of Willington, CT and her grandchildren; Joseph, Nicholas, Anna and James Perracchio; her special niece, Edith Ferrero as well as her many other nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend our gratitude to Doris Bryan and Josephine Hill for their care and compassion that allowed Rose to spend her final days in her beloved home. Donations may be made to The Holy Cross Sandwich Ministry, 221 Plumtree Road, Springfield, MA 01118. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. at SAMPSON’S CHAPEL OF THE ACRES, 21 TINKHAM ROAD, SPRINGFIELD, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 219 Plumtree Road, Springfield. Burial will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
