Obituary for Richard Benoit

Springfield- Richard E. Benoit, 70, of Springfield passed away Saturday, July, 7, 2018. Richard, the son of the late Ernest and Dorothy (Lussier) Benoit, was born in Springfield on May 13, 1948. Raised in Springfield, he graduated from Cathedral High School and went on to graduate from Western New England College. Richard served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a distinguished Vietnam veteran receiving several medals including the National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service medal and the Good Conduct medal. He later worked for many years as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor for Baystate Health. Richard was an avid member of the Springfield Rugby Club and the Holyoke Kennel Club. Above all, Richard loved spending time with his family and will be missed by all who knew him. Richard leaves behind his loving wife Alita (Kele-Oyler) Benoit, his daughters Wendy Baugh-Dobrasz of Virginia Beach, VA. and Melissa Oyler, and his son Patrick Oyler. Richard also leaves behind his sisters Jeanne Taylor of Spring Hill, FL., Dianne Benoit of Spring Hill, Fl., Darlene Hilgers of Spring Hill, Fl., and Colette Johnson of Belchertown, MA. He also leaves behind his three grandchildren, Kazmer, Alayna, and Daya, and his great grandchildren, Donovan & Evan and his caretaker Jennifer Wallace. Services and burial for Richard will be held in MA Veterans Cemetery, 1390 Main St. Agawam on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 11 am.
