Fannie Sophinos (Cascavalos)
SPRINGFIELD- Fannie C. Sophinos of Springfield passed away July 9, 2018 at her home. Fannie, daughter of the late Antonios and Mary (Baffas) Cascavalos, was born in Youngstown, OH. She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Youngstown, Ohio and went on to attain her business certificate at Youngstown State University. Fannie was an administrative assistant for Hewitt-Bowman Insurance Company for many years prior to moving to Springfield after she married. She was an avid pet lover and adored her dogs, Jake and Benny who will sorely miss her. Fannie also enjoyed baking and traveling. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her children. Fannie volunteered in the business office at Ludlow Hospital for over 20 years. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas L. Sophinos; and her brother, Emmanuel Cascavalos. Fannie will be missed by all who knew her, including her loving sons, Louis T. Sophinos and his wife Dianne of Lake Park, FL, Jeffrey A. Sophinos of Springfield, and Thomas S. Sophinos and his wife Jodi of Wilbraham; her sister, Helen Varveris of Michigan; her grandsons, Alexander, Andrew, and Adam; her great grandson, Nicholas; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting Hours for Fannie will be held Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 1PM to 4PM at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Family and friends are invited to meet directly in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 22 St. George Road, Springfield at 11AM on Monday, July 16, 2018 for Fannie’s Funeral Mass. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Fannie’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or the T.J. O’Connor Foundation, 60 Industry Ave., Springfield, MA 01104.
