Springfield- Thomas W. D’Ambrosio, 71, passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends at home on Oct 10, 2018. He was born in Springfield on Aug 11, 1947 to Ellery E. and Kathleen A. (Minihan) D’Ambrosio. A life-long resident of Springfield, Tom was a gifted athlete, excelling in soccer, football, and most especially baseball. He attended both Bryant & Stratton College and Western New England College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1974. Tom, an Air Force Veteran awarded commendation medals for Meritorious Service and Achievement, proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, and continued to serve his country as an Air Force Reservist until his honorable retirement in 1996, having attained the rank of Technical Sergeant. In addition to his career in the Armed Forces, Tom worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years and served as Post Master of the East Longmeadow Post Office from 1988 until he retired in 2007. He was also an active member of the ITAM Vets and Knights of Columbus in E. Long, and the Dante Club in W.Spfld. Loved by many, Tom was the life of the party, the consummate host, a fantastic friend, an incredible son, a remarkable brother, a fun-loving uncle, and the ultimate dad and grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife Gail (Brunette) D’Ambrosio, his father Ellery E. D’Ambrosio and one sister, Patricia D’Ambrosio. Thomas leaves two sons, Steven D’Ambrosio and his wife Beth of Agawam and Jeffrey D’Ambrosio of Bradley Beach, NJ; one daughter, Tammy Wetherbe and her husband Timothy of Hampden; four grandchildren, Reed, Caitlyn, Ashley, and Nancy; his mother Kathleen D’Ambrosio of Springfield; one sister, Marie Hurley and her husband Michael of Springfield, and one brother James D’Ambrosio of Springfield; his nieces and nephews; his great nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Fri, Oct 19, 2018 from 9:45 a.m. at Sampson Chapel of the Acres with a Mass of Christian Liturgy at 11 a.m. at St Patrick Church 1900 Allen St. Springfield, MA. Burial will follow with military honors in St Michael Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held on Thurs, Oct 18, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to the American Cancer Society.
