Granby-Alice G. (Ghareeb) Iennaco, 89, of Granby and formerly of Beauchamp Street, Springfield passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 surrounded by her family at Holyoke Hospital. Alice daughter of the late Samuel and Nafey (Ghareeb) Ghareeb was born in Ludlow on February 20, 1924. Raised in Springfield she graduated from Springfield Technical High School. Alice was employed by Superior Rug for 10 years and previously had worked as a receptionist for Dr. Adham for 10 years. She has resided in Springfield most of her life and in Granby for the past 4 years. Alice was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She loved to play cards and was an accomplished artist. In addition to her parents Alice was predeceased by her husband Vincent A. Iennaco, two sons, Alphonse V. Iennaco and Vincent J. Iennaco, a brother George S. Ghareeb, a sister, Adele Wihbey, a grandson, Vincent, and a great grandson Nicholas. She is survived by a daughter, Alice M. Bennis and her husband Charles of Granby; two granddaughters, Leeza and Sandra; thirteen great grandchildren; Michael, Samantha, Joelle, Blais, Anthony, Alexa, Christian, Francesca, Marisa, Hayden, Hailey, Kyle, and Mya. Visiting hours for Alice will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Alice’s funeral will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 St. George Road, Springfield. Rites of Committal and Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield. Memorial contributions in Alice’s memory may be made to Boston Children’s Hospital, 300 Longwood Avenue, Boston, MA 02115 and or to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 St. George Road, Springfield, MA 01104.
