Obituary for Joseph R. Federici

Joseph R.  Federici
SPRINGFIELD- Joseph R. Federici, 85, of Springfield passed away peacefully on September 23, 2017. Joseph was born on June 7, 1932 to the late Rose (Scrale) Federici and the late Felice Federici. He was a graduate of Trade High School. Joseph was an Army Veteran and served his country with distinction during the Korean War. He was a U.S. Letter Carrier in Greater Springfield area. He was a parishioner at Holy Cross Church for 50 years. Joseph was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, the Hampden County Deputy Sheriff Department, the National Rifle Association, the Florida Sheriff Association and the Caspano Club. Joseph was a life member of Elk’s Lodge #61 and was Italian Elk of the year, Jewish Elk of the year and Elk of the year. He was an avid hunter at his cabin in Vermont that he built with his family. Joseph spent the winters in Florida. In addition to his parents Joseph was predeceased by his sister Philomena Federici. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years Loretta (Moles) Federici known by her loved ones as Lolly. He is also survived by his son Peter Federici of Springfield and his son Steven Federici and his wife Catherine of Montgomery and two grandsons, Joseph Federici and Anthony Federici. Joseph also leaves his best friend of 78 years Eugene Brodeur. Visiting Hours for Joseph will be held, Wednesday September 27, 2017 from 4pm to 7pm at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres Funeral home, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 28, 2017 beginning at Sampson’s at 8:30 am followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in Holy Cross Church, 221 Plumtree Road, Springfield at 10am. Rites of Committal will be Saturday October 7, 2017 at Saint Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to Springfield Lodge of Elks #61 Scholarship Fund, 440 Tiffany St., Springfield, MA 01108 or to a charity of one’s choice.
