SPRINGFIELD- Vera M. (MacDonnell) Murphy, 86, of Springfield passed away May 12, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Vera, daughter of the late Thomas and Isabel (Diamond) MacDonnell, was born in Springfield on December 12, 1931. A lifelong resident of Springfield, she was a graduate of Cathedral High School Class of 1948. Vera went on to work as an administrative assistant for the City of Springfield where she retired after 50 years of service. She loved going to lunch with her friends and attending family parties. Vera also enjoyed cooking big family dinners and spending time on the beaches of Cape Cod. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James B. Murphy Jr. Vera will be greatly missed by all who knew her, including her sons, James Murphy of Springfield and Mark Murphy and his wife Tammy of Chicopee; her daughter, Joan Murphy and Fred DeMarinis of Chicopee; her daughter, Martha Marsh and her husband Christopher of Springfield; her sister, Alice Ford of Springfield; and the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Nora, Nicholas, and Rory Murphy, and Emma and James Marsh; and many extended family members and friends. Visiting Hours for Vera will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 4PM to 7PM at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Family and Friends are invited to meet directly at Sacred Heart Church, 387 Chestnut Street, Springfield at 10AM on Thursday, May 17, 2018 for Vera’s Liturgy of Christian Burial. Rites of Committal and Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Vera’s memory may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
