John "Donnie" D.  Shea
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL- John D. “Donnie” Shea, 87, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida passed away at home on July 6, 2018. Donnie, son of the late Daniel J. and Anastatia E. (Dromgoole) Shea, was born in Springfield on July 17, 1930. Raised in Springfield, he was a graduate of Cathedral High School. Donnie proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He later went on to become a motorcycle police officer for the City of Springfield. Donnie was a real estate entrepreneur, over the years Donnie owned several area hotels, restaurants, and bars including the Danny Boy Tavern in Springfield. He was a proud member of the John Boyle O’Reilly Club, Eagles Club 404 in Chicopee, and the Knights of Columbus in East Longmeadow. Donnie was also a lifetime member of the Chicopee Moose Lodge and the American Legion Post 430. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Maureen T. Wischerth and his former wife Shirley (McIntyre) Moynihan. Donnie will be missed by all who knew him, including his long time companion, Cheryl Soja; his sons, Daniel J. Shea (Peggy) of Matunuck, RI, Michael P. Shea (Lynda) of Westfield, and John D. Shea of Holyoke; his daughters, Donna M. Laviolette (Michael) of Hampden, Kathleen M. Shea of Springfield, and Colleen A. Shea-Martone (Michael) of West Springfield; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and also his nephew, Billy Wischerth; his nieces, Sue Hoar, Patty Knowles, and Joann Wisniewski; in addition many extended family members and friends. A special thank you to his great friend, business partner, and confidant Frank Fitzgerald for always being there for Donnie and also to his companion Cheryl for the great love and care she gave to our dad. Visiting Hours for Donnie will be held Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 4PM to 7PM at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Family and friends are invited to meet directly at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield at 10AM on Friday, July 13, 2018 for Donnie’s Liturgy of Christian Burial. Rites of Committal and Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fuller Street, Chicopee. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Donnie’s memory may be made to Sacred Heart Church Building Renovation Fund, 395 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA 01104.
