William J. Leary, age 78, passed away Monday, November 26, 2018 at Care One at Redstone in East Longmeadow. He was lovingly attended to by his family in his final days. He was born in Springfield on Sept 10, 1940 to the late Edwin and Edna (Bail) Leary. William ("Bill") was a class of 1958 graduate of Cathedral High School. Upon graduation Bill enlisted in the Navy and attained the rank of CT3. He worked as an equipment installer with Verizon for 30 years before retiring in 2001. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers ("IBEW"). William leaves his loving wife of 47 years Marie (Forgette) Leary of Springfield; one daughter, Sharon Leary of Agawam; two sons, James Leary of Springfield and Christopher Leary and his wife Christina of West Springfield; three brothers, Edwin Leary Jr. and his wife Cindy of Ludlow, Robert Leary and his wife Kathy of FL, and Daniel Leary of Springfield; four sisters, Virginia Humel of Chicopee, Madeline Flaherty and her husband Thomas of Westbrook, CT, Anne Fox of Southwick, Susie Dubois and her husband Les of Stafford Springs, CT; two grandchildren, Ruari and Baye Leary; sister in law Sheila Leary of Longmeadow, sister and brother in law, Alice Carter and her husband Dennis of Chicopee and brother in law Paul Forgette of Agawam. He was predeceased by one brother Thomas Leary and two sisters Therese Berthiaume and Christine Kibbe. He leaves many beloved nieces and nephews. Bill enjoyed crossword puzzles, was an avid reader, loved to travel, enjoy a good meal and loved to laugh. Bill loved the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and was a huge New England Patriots fan. He got to enjoy one final Patriots game with his family this past Sunday. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 starting at 9 a.m. at Sampson Chapel of the Acres 21 Tinkham Rd. Springfield, MA followed with a funeral home prayer service at 10 a.m. with burial to follow with military honors at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 30, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
