SPRINGFIELD- Joseph Danek Jr., 80, of Springfield passed away December 30, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center. Joseph, son of the late Joseph and Caroline (Grochmal) Danek Sr., was born in Westfield on June 10, 1938. Raised in Westfield, he was a graduate of Westfield High School. Joseph proudly served his country in the US Marine Corp. In his youth, he worked for Columbia Bicycle in Westfield and later was a correctional officer for the State of Connecticut in Somers where he retired after over 20 years of faithful service. Joseph enjoyed camping and fishing. He was also an avid sports fan and loved watching his grandchildren play sports. Joseph tried to attend every game he could. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Beverly Danek; and his sister, Mary Perrault. Joseph will be missed by all who knew him, including his beloved wife, Patricia A. (Long) Danek; his daughters, Jacqueline A. DePinto and her husband Frank of Salem, NH, and Kathleen G. Merchant of Chicopee; his brother, John Danek and his wife Shirley; his grandchildren, Jessica, Justin, Erica, Andrea, and Dominique; his great grandsons, Jack and Isaac; his constant companion, Meiska; and many extended family members and friends. Visiting Hours for Joseph will be held Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 10AM to 12Noon at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. A Funeral Home Service will follow beginning at 12Noon. Rites of Committal and Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State St., Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to Boston Children’s Hospital, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115.
