Alice T.  Gilhooly (Gniady)
Springfield- Alice T. Gilhooly, 97, of the Hungry Hill Section of Springfield passed away on January 17, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Chicopee on January 8, 1922, to the late Lawrence and Agatha (Nowicki) Gniady. Alice was a graduate of Chicopee High School. She was a parishioner of the former Our Lady of Hope Church and currently of Mary, Mother of Hope Church in Springfield. Alice worked as a bookkeeper for many years, retiring from Valentine Concrete. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, George L. Gilhooly, who passed away in 2000, one brother, Frankie Gniady, and seven sisters, Victoria Grochmal, Helen Gniady, Gladys Gwozdz, Adele Smith, Ann Ericson, Stella Lane, and Janet Pellissier. Alice leaves two daughters, Ann Gilhooly and Kathleen Gilhooly, both of Springfield; two sons, Jake Gilhooly and his wife Laurie of Ludlow, and Michael Gilhooly and his wife Debra of Sturbridge; two grandchildren, Brian Gilhooly and his wife Shauna of Chicago, and Kara Gibson and her husband Scott of Bolton; four great grandchildren, Paige and Connor Gibson, and Frankie and Millie Gilhooly, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. Alice was a long-time member of the Our Lady of Hope candlepin bowling league, and participated in exercise classes and line dancing at the Hope Center for many years after her retirement. She also enjoyed swimming, reading, playing cribbage and solitaire, and solving crossword puzzles and cryptograms. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 8:45 am from Sampson Funeral Home, 710 Liberty Street, Springfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Mary, Mother of Hope Church at 9:30 am. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield, MA 01104.
