Wilbraham-It is with sadness that the family of Amelia “Sis” Kelley Ryan of Springfield announces she passed away on Saturday March 9th. Born in 1936 in Forest Park to Vincent and Mary Pessolano she was dubbed “Sis” by her sister Victoria, a name that stuck with her for life. She attended Classical High School graduating in 1953 and later the Yale-New Haven School of Nursing. She married Edward Kelley of Springfield in 1956 and is survived by her 5 children: James Kelley of Ludlow, Daniel Kelley of Wilbraham, Robert Kelley of Chicopee, John Kelley of Palmer and Mary Boss of Hampden MA. She was a proud grandmother of 4, Sarah and Jessica Boss of Hampden and Brian and Samantha Kelley of Wilbraham. Sis worked at Wesson’s Women’s Hospital in the late 60’s and early 70’s and left nursing to run the Ryan’s Drugstore in Longmeadow after she married Robert Ryan of Springfield in 1975. She then rejoined the nursing profession working at the blood donors center at the BayState Medical Center until she retired in 2001. A lifelong devotion to the Boston Red Sox began when Ted Williams joined the team in 1939. In her retirement years she enjoyed line dancing, travel, frequent visits to East Matunick State Beach in Rhode Island and an obsession with Elvis. A devote Catholic she was baptized at Holy Name Church and later joined the Saint Patrick’s church choir in 16 Acres. After retirement she became a member of the Sacred Heart parish.
