Robert J. Hill passed away on Sunday, May 5th surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 1st, 1951 to the late Robert S. and Margaret P. (Dooley) Hill in Springfield. He was a 1969 graduate of Cathedral High School as well as a 1973 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, where he received a bachelor’s degree. Robert worked for over 35 years in management at Big Y, most recently at the Palmer store. Robert was an avid Celtics, Yankees, and Giants fan. Robert’s greatest pleasure in his life was being a beloved uncle to his six nieces and his nephew, as well as his two great nieces and one great nephew. He also loved to spend time with the rest of his family. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his cherished niece, Kathleen L. LeClair in 2004. Robert will forever be in the hearts of his sisters: Patricia Ashe and her husband, Michael of Springfield, Nancy LeClair and her husband, Timothy of Hampden, and Kathleen Whitney and her husband, Peter of Wilbraham. He also leaves his loving nieces and nephew, Meghan Ashe, Maureen Olds and her husband Matthew, Kerry Ann Ashe, Timothy LeClair, Erin Whitney, and Meredith Whitney; as well as his great nieces and nephew, Ella Collins, Keira LeClair, and Ryan Itterly. Family and friends are invited to the Sampson Chapel of the Acres on Tinkham Rd in Springfield on Thursday, May 9th from 4-7pm for a period of visitation. A funeral home service will be held on Friday, May 10th beginning at 11:00am. Burial will then follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, Robert’s family has requested that a memorial donation in his memory be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital: 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis TN, 38105-1942.
