Kristine Marie Fortune (Stone), 67, of Ludlow, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2019 surrounded by family. She was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts to the late Richard and Eleanor Stone (Minkley) on 5/15/1951. She was part of a large family, growing up with 7 sisters and 1 brother. She spent much of her earlier life in Holyoke and graduated from Holyoke High School. In her younger years she formed a softball team with her sisters and Krissy was the star pitcher. She met the love of her life, Frank Fortune, at the young age of 17, and was married on May 26, 1972 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Frank and Kris ultimately settled in Ludlow where they raised their family of 4 children. Over her lifetime Kris worked at several restaurants as a waitress in which she served up tons of laughter with her salty brand of love and kindness. It didn’t matter if Kris knew you for 20 seconds or 20 years, she always made you feel welcome and like part of her family. Krissy was an avid sports fan and loved to watch the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, she may have even had a few choice words for them along the way. Kris was the epicenter of her family. She loved her annual vacations to Old Orchard Beach and to various places with their family’s timeshare. Kris went by many names but perhaps her favorite title was Crazy Grandma. She was strong-willed and never let her health interfere with spending time with her family. She was a constant in the bleachers or on the sidelines of her grandchildren’s sports games, cheering loudly for all to hear – a silence that will now be deafening for all those who loved her. Kristine is predeceased by her parents and her sister Barbara Stone. She is survived by her husband Frank Fortune; her children, John (Michelle), Frank (Julie), Jeffrey (Jaime), and Kristin (Rishi) Kapur; her grandchildren, Jonathon, Kyle, Anthony, TJ, Zack, Alyssa, Austin, Maxx, Colt, Andrew and Alex Lopriore, and Ryan and Kyle Kapur; her siblings, Susan Stone, Ricky Stone, Debbie Rigali, Kathy Stone, Candy Deroy, Lisa Stone, and Mary Choiniere; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Her family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all the doctors, nurses, therapists and staff at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Spaulding Rehabilitation for the love, care, and support that was given to her. In celebration of her life the family will be wearing Boston sports attire to all services, including the church, and they invite all guests to do the same in her honor. Friends and family are invited to the Sampson Chapel of the Acres on 21 Tinkham Rd in Springfield for a period of visitation on Wednesday May 15th from 9 to 10:30am, where you are encouraged to wear your favorite Red Sox jersey in Kristine’s memory. A liturgy of Christian Burial will follow beginning at 11am at St. Cecilia’s Parish in Wilbraham with a celebration of her life at Wilbraham Country Club immediately following. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, Kristine’s family has asked that a memorial donation in her memory be made to the Jimmy Fund: 44 Binney St Boston MA 02115.
