Helen Rys Smith of Wilbraham passed away on Wednesday, May 15th 2019. Born in Warren, MA on December 1st 1931, daughter of the late Thomas and Sophie (Kaczmarczyk) Rys, she lived in Warren for many years before moving to Wilbraham over forty years ago. She attended Warren schools and the Baldwin Secretarial School in Springfield. She was employed at Hampshire Probate and Family Court for 23 years as a court reporter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Rys and her son Thomas F. Smith. Helen had often remarked that her life is her family and her family is her life so in that spirit she will forever be in the hearts of her beloved husband Walter of Wilbraham and two devoted children, James W. Smith of Harvard, MA and her daughter, Patricia W. Worthy and her husband, Peter H. of Grant, Florida. She also leaves her sisters Charlotte Kuzma of Ludlow, and Irene Radlo of Dayville, CT; three grandchildren Nigel A. Smith, Theresa Bell, and Christopher Worthy, as well as many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to the Sampson Chapel of the Acres on Tinkham Rd in Springfield on Monday, May 20th for a period of visitation from 11am-12 noon. A committal service will be held beginning at 12:15 at the Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Burial will then follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
