Violet Hall Lesiak, 100, of Ludlow, Massachusetts, passed away on September 9, 2019. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward E. Lesiak. Violet was born on September 2, 1919 in Philadelphia to the late Arthur and Lily Hall Yates. She grew up in Philadelphia with her four brothers and two sisters and it was here also that she met Edward at a local dance. They married on October 18, 1941 and he would be her partner for life. Violet and Edward started their family in the Philadelphia area and then would move to West Springfield, Massachusetts. In all, they had 10 children, 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great- grandchild. Violet is predeceased by her infant son Edward and her adult son Edward, both of whom she loved dearly. She also is predeceased by her cherished sons-in-law Ronald A. West and Joseph Gentile and her much-loved grandsons, Jonathan West and Derek Day. She is survived by her children: Violet West of Manchester, CT; Edith Smith of Chicopee, MA; Esther Day Gentile of Exeter, NH; Bea & Peter Levanos of O’Fallon, MO; Bernice & Hank Welch of Vail, AZ; Roberta Glassman of Ludlow, MA; Matthew Lesiak of Auckland, NZ; and Miriam & Mark Wiater of Linthicum, MD. Violet will be most remembered for her pure and steadfast heart, which forgave without limitation and loved without hesitancy. She adored children and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She delighted in their antics and had a few tricks up her own sleeve. She was a fierce competitor who relished a well-fought game of Scrabble or Bananagrams and was amazingly astute at solving cryptograms. In earlier years, she enjoyed playing the piano, walking long distances, and reading. In later years, she never lost her sense of delight, humor, and her flair for dramatic recitation. The family of Violet Lesiak will receive visitors for a wake at Sampson Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA on Sunday, September 15, 2019 from 1-4 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Orchard Covenant Church, 95 Berkshire Street, Indian Orchard, MA. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Springfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Survival Center at Orchard Covenant Church.
