Obituary

Kevin C. Welz, age 64, passed away on October 17, 2019 at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his family and friends. He was born in Springfield on December 15, 1954 to the late Bernard J. and Grace (Harrison) Welz. Kevin graduated from Classical High School and before he retired in 2017, had worked for 32 years as a Firefighter for the Springfield Fire Department. Kevin leaves his loving wife Anne (Flannery) Welz of Springfield; one son, Brendon Welz and his wife Alesia of Springfield; two daughters, Caitlin Welz of Springfield and Elizabeth Slater and her husband Jonathan of East Longmeadow; two grandchildren, Olivia Graves and Lily Slater; three brothers, Edward Welz and his wife Marilyn of MI, William Welz and his wife Darlene of Wilbraham and Jack Welz and his wife Dianne of Peabody, MA; one sister, Grace Odlum; his former wife and longtime friend Ann Marie (Park) Welz of Springfield; one sister in law Maureen Welz of Springfield, also many nieces, nephews and extended friends and family. He was predeceased by two brothers Bernard and Robert Welz and one sister Teresa Reed and her husband Richard. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 10 a.m. Directly at Sacred Heart Church 395 Chestnut St. Springfield with burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sampson Chapel of the Acres 21 Tinkham Rd. Springfield. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kevin’s name to either the Sister Caritas Cancer Center 271 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or the Muscular Dystrophy Association in care of Springfield Fire Department Local 648 (make checks payable to the MDA and mail to 33 Eastland Street, Springfield, MA 01109).
