Obituary

Springfield-Peter E.Smith 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 5, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Taum, Ireland son of the late Edward P.Smith, Jr. and Dorothy E.(Richard) Smith.He was raised in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield,attending local schools and graduating from Commerce High School. Peter was a decorated Vietnam Veteran having served with the 173rd Airborne, LRRP. He was the recipient of both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his meritorious service.After returning from the military. Peter worked as a machinist for many years for Primus Industries and later for Springfield Wire until his retirement.He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his son Edward P.Smith III of Granby, MA. his daughter Shannon and grandson Tyler Gladu with whom he made his home and his daughter Tracy Paquette of South Hadley,MA his sister Kathleen Sarno of Enfield,CT. seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews..Besides his parents he was predeceased by his loving wife Janice L.Weir Visiting hours for Peter will be held on Wednesday November 13, 2019 at Sampson's Funeral Home, 710 Liberty Street Springfield, Ma.from 8:30 am to 10 am, with a funeral home service beginning at 10 am.Burial to immediately follow at the Veteran's Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, Ma.01001.Memorial donations maybe made to the Wounded Warrrior Project, P.O.Box 758517, Topeka,KS.66675.
