Florence M. “Flo” (Devine) Sheehan passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family November 19. She was born on October 19, 1935 in Springfield, Ma. Florence was a resident of Wilbraham for fifty-one years and recently a resident of East Village Place, East Longmeadow. Florence was the daughter of George P. and Florence E. (Atkins) Devine of Westfield, Ma. Florence wed Edward T. Sheehan in June 1955 and together they forged a beautiful life. Florence was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Westfield State University and received a Master in Special Education from UMass, Amherst. She worked for twenty-two years at Minnechaug Regional High School and “loved every minute!” Her passion was her students. She is survived by her brother, Richard Devine of Chicopee, and sister Patricia Cray of Westfield. She is predeceased by her siblings Thomas Devine, Joyce Gaudet, and Nano Mayhew. Florence leaves seven children, twenty-five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; Mary Catherine Christensen, of East Longmeadow, Edward Sheehan, of Virginia, Margaret and Richard Grimaldi of East Longmeadow, Gerald and Robin Sheehan, of Wilbraham, Catherine Sheehan of North Adams, Daniel and Sandra Sheehan of Hampden, and Julia and Rear Admiral John Menoni, of Piti, Guam. Grandchildren: Thomas and Lindsey, Matthew and Casey, Andrew and Lisa, James Christensen and Sarah Waltsak of East Longmeadow, Daniel and Sarah Christensen of Springfield. Luke and Angela Sheehan of Virginia. Michael and Maria Grimaldi, of Monson, Carolyn and Anastasios Kapernekas, of Tolland, CT. Joshua and Kara Sheehan, of Wilbraham, Jacob and Mayra Sheehan, of Worcester, Maria and Michael Carney, of Enfield, CT., Timothy, Benjamin, Daniel, Cecilia Sheehan and Courtney Kimball, of Wilbraham. Joseph, Marc, and John Latour, of North Adams, Ashley, Kelsey, and Ainsley Sheehan, of Hampden, and Molly, Mid-Shipman Thomas, and Margaret Menoni, of Chatham, Ma. Great-grandchildren; James, Owen, Edward, and Morgan Christensen; Joshua, Kaleigh, Patrick, Isabella Sheehan and Clara Carney. Along with spending time with her grandchildren, she loved the outdoors and being active. Florence was also a resident of South Kingston, RI., where she shared her beach house with family and friends for twenty-five years. During her summer hiatus, one would find her traveling, hiking a mountain trail, or swimming the ocean blue. Many happy memories at “Grandma’s Beach house.” The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Baystate Medical Center and especially the Hospice Unit for the compassionate and outstanding services they provided Florence as she entered eternal life. Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, November 25, from 4 -7 p.m. at Sampson Chapel of the Acres, Springfield, Ma. Funeral services on Tuesday, November 26, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Parish, Main Street, Wilbraham. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
