Obituary

Donato (Don) Felice Rizzolo, Jr. will be remembered for his love of music, his work ethic and most importantly the love he had for his family. Don cherished the time he spent with family and friends and was extremely proud of his four daughters. Don passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family on November 30, 2019, after a short illness. He was born in Springfield on August 21, 1952, to Donato Felice Rizzolo Sr. and Marion Alice (Wolff) Rizzolo and was the oldest of three children. He attended Springfield schools and was a graduate of Classical High School, Class of 1970, and later attended Holyoke Community College, followed by Ricker College in Holton, ME. Don was an eighth-generation master carpenter and was serious about his guitar playing. Music was integral throughout his life, providing comfort for him at the end. Don is survived by his wife of 45 years Gwen-Ellen (Powell) Rizzolo, and four daughters, Stephanie (Rizzolo) Erickson and her husband Tim of New Boston, NH; Angela Rizzolo of East Granby, CT; Felicia (Rizzolo) Kroll and her husband Joe of Wilbraham, MA; and Katherine (Rizzolo) Noyes and her husband Andy of Enfield, CT; a sister Carolyn (Rizzolo) Ruell of Springfield, MA; grandchildren Hailey and Eric Lynds of East Granby, CT and Olivia and Gabriel Kroll of Wilbraham, MA; a stepbrother James Nelson of Pittsfield; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Donna Marie Rizzolo, two half-sisters Bonnie (Rizzolo) Roy and Judy (Rizzolo) Summa and a step-sister Mary-Lynn (Nelson) Andrews. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Sunday, December 8, 2019 between 1 and 4 pm at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA. Burial at Hillcrest Park Cemetery in Springfield, MA on Monday at 11AM.
