EAST LONGMEADOW- Donald “Donny” James Smith, 73, of East Longmeadow passed away January 12, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Donald, son of the late John and Eileen (Duffy) Smith, was born in Springfield on April 10, 1944. Raised in Springfield, he was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School Class of 1963. Donald proudly served his country in the US Army during Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star as well as the Purple Heart during his service. Donald was the owner and president of Smith Associates Surveyors. He was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church in East Longmeadow and was a member and past president of the Home Builders Association of Western Massachusetts, and member and past president of the Knights of Columbus Home Association. Donald loved to golf and take trips to Saratoga to watch horse racing. He also enjoyed Irish music. In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by his brothers, Roger W. Smith and Fredrick J. Smith. He will be missed by all who knew him, including his beloved wife, Helen (Neylon) Smith; his daughter, Allison Woolston and her husband Christian of Beacon, NY; his sons, Brian Smith and his wife Nadia of Washington, D.C., and Michael Smith and his wife Amy of Somers, CT; his grandchildren, Mackenzie, Charlotte, Liam, Finn, and Neylon; his brother, Timothy J. Smith and his wife Janet of Hampden; his sister, Margaret O’Mara of Boyton Beach, FL; his sister-in-law, Judith Smith of East Longmeadow; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Family and friends are invited to meet directly at St. Michael’s Church, 110 Maple Street, East Longmeadow at 11:30AM on Saturday January 20th, 2018 for Donald’s Liturgy of Christian Burial. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Donald’s memory may be made to Open Pantry at St. Michael’s Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow, MA 01028 or St. Michael’s Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow, MA 01028. Sampson’s Family Chapels have been entrusted with his arrangements.
