Obituary for Charles "Charlie" A. Plasse

Charles "Charlie" A.  Plasse
Charles A. “Charlie" Plasse, 93, passed away on September 3, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center. He was the son of the late Zephirin O. and Meranda (Bergeron) Plasse. Charlie was born in Springfield and resided there for many years before moving to East Longmeadow.
A World War II Navy veteran, he served in the Pacific on the island of Guam. Charlie often spoke about these experiences and was proud to have served his country. He graduated from American International College in 1954, with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and he continued to support his Alma Mater throughout his life. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service working at the Springfield Post Office for over 30 years. After his retirement, he worked for many years at Wilbraham Sand and Gravel.
He was a communicant of Holy Cross Parish in Springfield, often attending Mass on a daily basis. He was involved in many church activities including serving as a Eucharistic Minister offering Holy Communion to shut-ins and nursing home residents. Charlie was kind and gentle, always helping others in need. He sponsored a child in South America and was a lifelong supporter of Catholic Missions.
Charlie was proud of his French-Canadian heritage and was fluent in French. He was an avid reader and enjoyed working on his computer. Charlie was especially fond of dogs and a long-time dog owner. He was a loyal Red Sox fan and was thrilled when they won the World Series.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings: Suzanne Arduini, Monique Prior, Judith Hale, Lawrence Plasse, Frances Anderson, John Plasse and George Plasse. He leaves his beloved nieces and nephews: Roger Arduini, David Plasse, June Winn, Carol Kyte, Celeste Ziemba, Mark Plasse, Marie Plasse, Michael Plasse, Richard Plasse, and James Plasse. As well as his sisters-in-law, Edwina Plasse and Marjorie Plasse. He will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A period of visitation for Charlie will be held from 9:30-10:30 at Sampsons Chapel of the Acres in Springfield on September 10th. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Cross Church in Springfield at 11am. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions, in Charlie's memory, may be made to Holy Cross Church, 219 Plumtree Rd., Springfield, MA 01118 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
